Application of Firmness, Commodity & Delight - Cabin Description::
Firmness:: [A house is an environmental filter]
The orientation of the cabin faces North, the same as the Bark Studio House to enhance the effects and usage of glass, particularly on the western side. As Bark Studio House is located in the Noosa Hinterlands, the surrounding site of th cabin is located on similar terrain, on a small hill in Hypthothesis Heights. It also ensures the cabin creates optimal views from all directions in the site.
Key elements of the Bark Studio House feature minimalist materials of glass, concrete and timber. There is a great emphasis of glass throughout the house to maximise views of the surrounding environment - large glass panels are situated at all sides/ views (North, East, South, West) of the cabin and elevate to the ceilings. All western windows/doors pivot, slide and stack to maximise views, light and air flow, whilst still pertaining to all natural elements. A longitudinal terrace/ deck hovers over the natural ground level, enabling creative areas for reflection and reading.
Commodity:: [A house is a container of human activities]
In a reflection to Bark Studio House, most of the activity space is located on the ground floor level; featuring significant living areas, dining, kitchen, laundry and storage. The mezzanine level features a singular bedroom enabling the functionality of many spaces for furniture and a reflection area - all contained within the transparency of glass. Encapsualtes the elements of a studio and/or loft design as a reflection of Bark Studio House. The design minimises the use of solid walls, making the cabin transparent and open. The smaller space of the mezzanine allows appropriate room for a walk-in-wardrobe, basin and storage, toilet, and open, glass-framed shower. Storage is compacted under the staircase and within the lower stairs to ensure no space wastage. The bench is functional for additional appliances, laptop, etc. The stack doors at the main entrance slide to secure the rest of the cabin, but also allow a alternated filter to separate and join both of the spaces.
Delight:: [A house is a delightful experience]
The use of pivoted doors and windows allows the viewer to retain a sensory experience from views of the surrounding environment, natural air circulation, natural lighting, and functionality in an open plan. The mezzanine level also allows internal and external views within the void - enhancing the elemental space. The large deck frames the living spaces and the study, allowing the flow from the kitchen/dining/living areas onto the open deck.
